2013 BMW Motorrad USA Yearly Sales Report
Earlier this month, BMW Motorrad reported a record-breaking year of worldwide sales, the Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer selling over 115,000 motorcycles and maxi scooters in 2013 – up 8.3 percent over 2012.
Though Germany was the top-selling market with over 21,000 units sold, the US was a close second. BMW Motorrad USA reports it sold 14,100 units in 2013, compared to 12,100 units in 2012. This shows a 17-percent increase in US sales, which is yet another record in America.
Hans Blesse (Vice President, BMW Motorrad USA) says: “New and loyal customers, a diverse product portfolio and a high performing dealer network continue to boost sales in the U.S. and make it BMW Motorrad’s strongest export market.”
BMW attributes the double-digit growth by the release of the new semi-water cooled R 1200 GS Adventure Tourer. This was the number-one selling motorcycle of 2013, with over 30,000 sold. More than 2,000 customers took deliver of the Boxer Twin, which upped demand for the GS by almost 20 percent.
Other bikes that were popular sellers in the US were the F 800 GS Adventure, the F 800 GT sport tourer, and BMW’s C 600 Sport and C 650 GT scooters.
Hans Blesse says: “As much as we are delighted with our performance in 2013, the coming year will bring even greater potential for growth with the introduction of five all-new 2014 models in the first quarter: the BMW R nine T, BMW S 1000 R, BMW R 1200 RT, BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, and the K 1600 GTL Exclusive.”
